Subject: Publication quality ELITE plots
If ELITE files are converted to ascii format using Reproman, they can be used
in a MAC program called Cricket Graph 3.0 (Computer Associates) to create
histograms, overlays, multiple graph page layouts, with labelling of axes
adjusting of the graph characterictics etc. It works relly well and is about 2
generations ahead of the IBM version of the same program (which works well too
but is not as sophisticated as the MAC version). The figures can be printed on
a laser jet. I havent tried to do dot plots as I have only the IBM version
and it is primitive compared to the MAC version. The only problem I have
encountered is that Reproman converts the ELITE files into 256 channel rather
than 1023 which takes away much of the resolution for e.g. DNA content which
is on an linear scale and where relatively close peaks need to be visually
resolved. Its fine for surface phenotype data. I heard a rumor that ELITE
software would eventually have the ability to make ascii files which would be
a big help.
