OFFICE MEMO Ratio on FACS Vantage/FACStar+ Date:8/20/93

The FACS Vantage and the FACStarPLUS are both highly adaptable. However,
ratioing the delayed signals between two lasers is not possible on either
system. The suggestion of using the FL2 signal cable to "trick" the
instrument will result in signals from two events being ratio'ed, not two
parameters from a single cell being ratio'ed which is probably what you
want. This is because of the timing of when the signal is ratio'ed, which
occurs right after the peak. Thus, the ratio is determined right after the
the particle goes through the first laser (on an FL1/FL2 ratio), before it
is even seen by the second laser! So if you "trick" the system this way,
the ratio is actually the ratio of an FL1/"FL2" event that occurred at the
same time as an actual "FL4" event.
