In response to the question of Ulrich Sack in Leipzig, elastase is a
lysosomal endoproteinase, which also occurs as a secreted form. It
recognizes and cuts (Ala-Ala)n.

Fluorogenic substrates for elastase are available from Molecular Probes,
Inc.; Eugene; OR 97402; U.S.A.; Tel: (541) 465-8300 or from Molecular Probes
Europe BV; Tel: +31-71-233-431; FAX: +31-71-233-419.

There are two Rhodamine-110 versions available (catalog numbers R-6504 and
R-6506) and there is a chloromethyl version of R-6504, which is catalog
number 6569.
