Laboratory Profile

Director: Prof Henryk Tchorzewski

1.Facilities available: Instrumentation lab, animal room (mice/rats, rabbits), general biology lab, computer facilities, tissue culture facility, conference room.

2.Instrumentation:

Flow Cytometry: Becton Dickinson FACScan with 488 argon laser.

Other major items: Perkin Elmer spectrofluorometer LS5, Perkin Elmer spectrometer UV/VIS Lambda 17, fluorescence photomicroscope, luminometer 1251 LKB.

Computers and Analytical: Lysys II program on BP computer. IBM PC-based PC Lysys data analysis system. 3. Specialization areas: Phagocytic cell function, such a oxidative burst of neutrophils, phagocytosis, endothelial-neutrophil interactions, study o f adhesion glycoproteins, immunophenotyping.

4. Training Opportunities: Isolation, preparation, handling and usage of human blood cells, tissue cells, endothelial cell studies, phenotyping characterization.

5. Special courses offered: FACScan instrument usage; cell function studies; immunophenotyping; receptor expression.

6. Graduate Program: None

7.Local Accomodations: Hotel app. 23$, lunch app. 5$.

8. Transportation: Airport - Warsaw. From Warsaw to Lodz by train (1.5 h) Central Station - Lodz Fabryczna or by car - 130 km.
