HOW TO USE EXTERNAL PROGRAMS
Your machine must have a program that can read EXCELR
version 4 or later for WindowsR spreadsheets. Your
browser must be configured to call this program as an external
program. If the system you are using does not immediately load
the spreadsheet when you click on "do_plot" or a
similar button, the following may help solve the problem.
- PUCC Computer Labs PCs. (I still do not know how to make
the Macs work on this): Netscape browser and Microsoft
ExcelR spreadsheet
- "Unknown file type" alert box comes up
after you have clicked on the "do_plot"
button.
- Click on [pick app] button
- Type the following into the requester!
- n:\dos\msoffice.43\excel\excel.exe
- Click [OK] as needed to get back to the your
program
- You should now be able to use the spreadsheet for
the rest of the current Netscape session. We are
trying to get PUCC to make loading the Excel
spreadsheet automatically, but for now you will
have to bear this inconvenience. Sorry!
- Netscape browser and Microsoft ExcelR
spreadsheet as part of TYPICAL Microsoft OfficeR
installation.
- "Unknown file type" alert box comes up
after you have clicked on the "do_plot"
button.
- Click on [pick app] button
- Click on [browse] unless you know the path to
your spreadsheet
- Go to the root directory on drive C:
- Enter MSOFFICE directory {You may also try EXCEL
or "PROGRAMS", etc. directories}
- Enter EXCEL directory
- Click on EXCEL.EXE
- Click [OK] on reqesters until you are back to
browsing the page
- You should now be able to use the spreadsheet
