I often run an ethanol chaser after bleach on the theory that the bleach
will work out its aggressions on the alcohol rather than the instrument
components. Perhaps our colleagues at Purdue could investigate the effects
of dilute (5%) EtOH followed by 70% - i.e., a boilermaker cleaning solution.
