Core Facilities

I am in the process of getting a core facility up and running and
have run into something of a brick wall, namely our administration.
Our facility consists of a high speed cell sorter (MoFlo), a confocal
laser scanning microscope (Zeiss 410) and an automated sequencer
(ABI).

We are gradually getting more users from outside our department (both
from within and outside of the university). Our goal is to be self-
supporting so we would like to get reimbursed for reagents,
maintenance/repairs, etc. We aren't talking massive profits here,
simply covering our costs and at the same time being able to help out
those outside users as well.

What I would dearly like to have are some names or contacts at other
core facilities at institutes in Europe and especially Germany where
people are reimbursed for their services in any of the above
mentioned areas by users from other departments. I have seen the
list on the Purdue web site, but that is primarily U.S. sites, and it
would be better to have some more local ones that I could use as
examples for our administration.

Thanks,
Marie Follo

P.S. You haven't experienced true bureaucracy until you've
experienced German Bureaucracy (I hadn't anyway).
