question on linearity of flow channels

The relationship between channels and high voltage is not
linear. I'll leave it at that because others will give you a
longer answer. What I do want to comment on is that it seems to
me that the problem you're after is drift due to all of the
factors that cause misalignment over time. I would not adjust
the high voltage. Instead, after the experiment is done, plot
the mode or mean of the standards versus time. You then have
a track of the drift, and you can calculate the actual DNA index
of your test samples from that plot. That makes more sense
provided the drift is small. If the drift is large, then
physical improvements to your instrument seem more apropriate.
