Rob Chervenak and others interested,
At a recent Australian Flow Cytometry Group meeting there were some
data presented that may be related. Iona O'Brien from Auckland was
looking at apoptosis in plant protoplasts and she'd noted that the DNA
undergoes a 9-fold reduction in fluorescence as it supercondensed
prior to apoptosis. Could the supercondesation phenomenon be what's
happening here (and for other areas where there is an anomolous drop
in DNA staining by intercalating stains)?
