We are the proud owners of a new FACSCalibur from BD and are trying to
decide on the best way to store our data - both for back up and long term
archiving. Initially, at least, the machine will be used by only 1 or 2
users and it is not expected that it will be acquiring data every day, let
alone all day. However, the user pool may expand, but not too dramatically.
The options we are considering are a ZIP drive with 10Mb discs or a JAZZ
drive with 1Gb discs. Does anyone have negative or positive comments about
either storage system? How reliable are these discs?
Also the rest of our computers are PCs attached to a LAN. It would be
technically and politically awkward to put the FACS Macintosh onto the LAN,
so we are looking at ways of transferring data. The suggestion so far has
been to install MicroSoft Office on the Mac, transfer files from CELLQUEST
to PowerPoint on the Mac and then transfer them by floppy to a PC, where we
should be able to reformat from MAC to PC-based PowerPoint on our LAN. Does
anyone have other options, or should this work OK?
