To those interested in mouse histocompatibility antigens:
The PharMingen catalog contains a chart (pages 68-69 of the 1996-1997 edition)
listing the H-2 and I-A types of 45 commonly used mouse strains. The chart also
includes the allotypes of some other loci, including Igh's, several Ly loci,
Thy-1, Mls loci (Mtv), NK-1, and V alpha and V beta T cell receptors. The
information in the chart was obtained from a variety of sources, including Jan
Klein's text mentioned below. For detailed H-2 information on congenic strains,
we refer to Jan Klein's article published in Immunogenetics, vol. 17, pp.
553-596 (1983).
PharMingen sells purified, biotin-, and fluorochrome-conjugates of antibodies to
many H-2 and I-A allotypes, and our catalog includes brief descriptions of the
specificities of the antibodies offered.
You may request a catalog through PharMingen's web site:
http://www.pharmingen.com,
by phone (from US and Canada): 800-825-5832,
or you may e-mail me directly.
Happy allotyping!

C57Bl/6 mice are I-A of b and there are a lot of immunology textbooks
that provide this information, particularly Natural History of the Major
Histocompatibility Complex by Jan Klein is probably the best although
there are some mouse genome texts whose titles alude me at present.
But really the best source is the ATCC catalog which describes the original
specificity of all the murine class I and class II antibodies that they
have.
If you looked up Y3P for example, Janeway's classic to I-A of b, the catalog
would tell you other side specificities as well as tell you the major
representative
strain cells that this antibody will bind to. ATCC stands for American Type
Culture Collection, they're located in Bethesda, Maryland I believe and the
catalog is probably free.
