Thanks to all who responded to my query about the calibration beads.

There appear to be many who are using - and liking the "Rainbow" beads
marketed by Spherotech in Libertyville, IL (telephone 1-800-368-0822). Some
thought, though, that the CV's from these beads may be a little wide for
DNA - and this well taken comment from one person "...it is a little
confusing as well, when you get emission in all pmt's"

Other beads recommended included those from Flow Cytometry Standards
Corporation (1-800-227-8143), and 6 micron beads from Polysciences, Inc.
(other diameters available)
For UV:Cat#19102 Fluoresbrite BB ("bright blue") beads; For HeNE:
Cat#15715 Blue beads (dyed). Also, Coulter DNAcheck beads (10 um) with
the UV excitation, as well as fixed chicken RBC's from Riese Scientific in
California.

With all the good advise I'm not sure what will be the best - but I think
I'll try Molecular Probes' AlignFlow particles. They offer several in
various excitation/emmission combinations, including a DAPI-like UV type.
6.0 and 2.5 um sizes. They can be reached at: http://www.probes.com. The
web site helped me make up my mind as they offer a nice PDF document "Flow
Cytometry Reference Standards" that is quite clear and helpful.

No whitewater kayakers responding. I'm suprised, I thought there would be
more who "go with the flow" on rivers!
