Laboratory Profile
Director: Dr. Mariano Rocchi
1. Facilities available: Molecular genetics laboratory; Sterile room for somatic cell hybrids cultures; Microscopes and digital imaging set-up (CCD camera).
2. Instrumentation: Axioplan microscope equipped with a cooled CCD camera; PowerMac computer and software for FISH image processing; In strumentation for molecular biology. Equipped sterile room for somitic cell hybrids cultures (used for producing sub chromosomal painting probes).
3. Specializition areas: Production of alphold centromeric probes specific for the centromeric regions of human chromosomes; Production of subchromosomal painting probes from somatic cell hybrids for FISH analysis of any cytogenetic rearrangement; Hundre ds of such probes are available at present.
4. Training Opportunities: FISH; Preparation of subchromosomal painting libraries from somatic cell hybrids; Handling of human-hamster somatic cell hybrids.
5. Special courses offered: Generation of somatic cell hybrids, Cytogenetic analysis of constitutional or acquired chromosome rearrangements through FISH analysis, with particular reference to subchromosomal painting probes.
6. Graduate Program: None.
