About the company

Cytomation is a privately held, Colorado based, biomedical instrumentation company specializing in high performance flow cytometry.

The Company was founded in January, 1988 with a mission to improve the performance of flow cytometers through the application of state-of-the-art electronics and computing. With a particular focus on high performance sorting and "user friendly" computing, Cytomation developed CICERO®(r), a universal electronics and computer interface for most industry standard flow cytometers.

Although Cytomation's first product, CICERO, was a retrofit electronics system, the longer-term goal was to build an advanced cell sorter which would make high speed sorting a reality. In 1992, an agreement was signed with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) licensing Cytomation to manufacture and market LLNL's MoFlo®, a true high speed sorter, worldwide. MoFlo had been developed at LLNL to facilitate the sorting of human chromosomes as part of the Human Genome Project.

Cytomation assembled a talented and experienced engineering team to fully develop MoFlo as a multi-purpose high performance flow cytometer, and introduced the instrument to the market in October 1994. While no other commercial flow cytometer can sort effectively at speeds above 5,000 cells per second, MoFlo& successfully sorts at rates at or above 25,000 cells per second, with excellent yield, viability and purity.

Since 1988, Cytomation has placed its CICERO®, CyCLOPS® software and MoFlo products in over 150 sites in the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. Development, manufacturing, sales and service are located in the Colorado headquarters and offices are maintained in Melbourne, Australia, and Freiburg, Germany. The pace of innovation is sustained through dynamic ongoing collaborations with Colorado State University, LLNL, Stanford University and University of Washington.
