Flow Cytometry Specialist/Technologist

Roles & Responsibilities Include:

·       Maintain all equipment in good working condition and ready for use at all times.

·       Manage operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of flow cytometers and cell sorters.

·       Must be able to troubleshoot and fix problems on the spot with minimum of instrument downtime.

·       Communicating quickly regarding system defects and work actively towards resolution. 

·       Create training program to use flow cytometers and cell sorters and modify as appropriate.

·       Provide training necessary for independent acquisition and analysis of multi-color FACS samples in facilities cytometers, specifically: instrument use, general facility etiquette, safety, basic troubleshooting, software, and data interpretation.

·       QC/QA following documented SOPs, generate new SOPs and protocols as needed.

·       Author and prepare technical reports, protocols, and operational plans.

·       Execute testing following defined quality processes.

·       Maintain accurate records of all work performed.

 

Ideal Educational Requirements and Experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree and/or advanced degree in life science or clinical fields.

·       Expertise in flow cytometric applications is required.

·       Proven experience teaching technical topics and working in a collaborative environment.

·       Ability to synthesize and articulate technical and scientific methodologies, specifications, and information to all levels.

·       Excellent interpersonal communication skills for both individual and group settings. 

·       Demonstrate patience, a willingness to help others, an ability to explain complex principles clearly and concisely to all experience levels.

·       Ability to problem solve, both independently and as part of a team.

·       Able to work safely in a BSL2 environment.

·       Ability to travel to our Menlo Park facility as needed; primary work location is in Sacrament

·       Effective organization and planning skills.

·       A good sense of humor is a plus!
