Senior Clinical Technologist

 

The Senior Clinical Technologist plans and implements special and complex procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and assists in the establishment and maintenance of quality control standards.

In addition to performing the duties of a medical technologist at a high level of expertise, the Senior Clinical Technologist is responsible for, and oversees the following activities in information technology with respect to the histocompatibility and diagnostic hematopathology laboratory.

 

Technical Lead:

       Serve as a technical specialist in the histocompatibility and diagnostic hematopathology lab with emphasis on supporting the information technology platforms in the lab section including SCC LabMic, SCC SoftFlow, specialized interfaces (FacsLink, HistoTrac, SoftDMI), analysis programs (Fusion, Kaluza, and FacsSuite)

       Provide advanced problem solving and troubleshooting for data transmission workflows

       Assist in the development and implementation of new interfaces and analysis software, and selection of new equipment

       Perform validation of test builds and instrument interfaces in the histocompatibility and diagnostic hematopathology lab

       Help ensure long term maintenance and daily troubleshooting of LIS, EMR, and other information technology applications used in the lab section by interfacing with pathology informatics, MiChart liaisons, and software engineers, including instrument interfaces.  

       Assist with flow cytometry immunophenotyping panel changes and new build process

       Assist with management and QA/QC of HLA test result data, including data from planned transition to next-generation sequencing method for tissue typing

       Perform histocompatibility and flow cytometry bench testing at NCRC 

       Participate in HLA on-call duty for deceased donor review

       Assist with other lab section technical work as needed, depending on training and competency.

 

QC/QA/Compliance

       Monitor, organize, maintain Quality control and Quality Assurance Records.  Ensure that quality assurance and control is being performed in a timely manner.

Maintain QA/QC records

       Review Quality Control and instrument function reports to ensure that acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained.

       Assist in preparation for CAP and ASHI inspections

Training/Competency

       Assess training competency of new employees, initially, and after 6 months, then annually. 

       Perform training competency of employees, for all major software revisions or new data transmission workflows

 

Required Qualifications*

 

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment. 

 

·      Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, equivalent laboratory science, or in a chemical, physical or biological science

·      Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP) or Medical Technologist or MT(AMT) or specialty certification at the time of hire is required

·      Must have a minimum of 4 years (post-training), clinical experience relevant to the position

·      Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of an MT at a high level of expertise and the ability to perform the assigned work while still maintaining patient care responsibilities

·      Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with other medical personnel in both verbal and written form; demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work, and to exercise initiative in recognizing and solving problems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse team

 

Desired Qualifications*

1.    Solid level of experience in a histocompatibility and/or flow cytometry laboratory

2.    Administrative and applied experience with SCC LIS, Epic HIS; FacsLink, HistoTrac, and SoftDMI interfaces, Fusion, Kaluza, and FacsSuite   

3.    Evidence of excellent communication, process improvement, change management, and team building skills.

4.    Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.

5.    Evidence of Lean/Six Sigma education or certification.

 

Work Schedule

This position is 40 hours on the day shift, with rotational weekend and holiday on-call coverage.
