The mission of the Georgia Cancer Center's Flow Cytometry shared resource is to provide access to state-of-the-art flow cytometers, support equipment, and associated software and services. Our instrumentation affords the ability to perform almost every published flow cytometry protocol.

Required Qualifications 

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn
Ability to work independently as well as interact with lab mates, complete work and meet deadlines

Responsibilities 

Oversee core facility operation to support the Augusta University Georgia Cancer and Augusta University campus investigators and their labs and staff. Responsible for maintenance of labs and all flow cytometers; analyzers (6), cell sorters/cell sorting (2), support/ancillary equipment and for scheduling access, use confirmation/charging and training/supervision of all users. 

  

The duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Daily/weekly/monthly maintenance, coordination of service, QC and operation of 8 flow cytometers; 6 analyzers and 2 cell sorters and accompanying BSC and other support equipment; MilliQ system, chillers 
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date webpage 
  • General lab maintenance including inventory and supply ordering, general lab and instrument operation/maintenance SOP preparation 
  • Collect and prepare information/comparisons/quotes for new/replacement equipment 
  • Manage emergent lab alteration/construction issues as needed 
  • Attend regional/national meetings/webinars for continuing education and keep abreast of current and emerging flow cytometry knowledge and technology 
  • Maintain Chemical Safety Database 
  • Maintain biosafety compliance including SOP preparation and maintenance 
  • Maintain 7+ offline computer analysis stations and their multiple analytical and data import/export software 
  • Maintain Flow Core iLab site to facilitate scheduling, use confirmation, billing of core use, use hours tabulation, revenue dollar numbers and generation of budgetary information 
  • Consult users on flow cytometric experiments and cell preparation and analysis for analyzer acquisition and cell sorting 
  • Perform biohazardous and non-biohazardous cell sorting on ThermoFisher Bigfoot and FACSCAria
  • Train and oversee users; students, fellows, faculty, technical staff; in operation and daily maintenance of flow cytometer analyzers and concomitant software 
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned. 

Shift/Salary 

Shift: Days/M-F, Work outside of the normal business hours may be required. 

  

Pay Grade: R16 

  

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
