BD Life Sciences – Senior Scientist, Systems Validation (Flow Cytometrist)

Location – San Jose, CA

 

BD Biosciences is seeking a flow cytometrist who is excited to apply their flow application experience to the development and testing of new flow cytometry cell analysis systems. This role may also work on the development and testing of multiomic systems offering an array of RNA and protein assays. No experience with validation testing or product development needed.

 

Play a critical role on cross-functional product development teams by representing the customer experience. Interface with customers to gather critical data that will guide validation testing of products. Assist with usability testing to ensure our products are easy to use and meet user needs. This role will be working on research-use-only flow cytometer analyzers, sorters, and/or multiomic analysis systems. You will translate your experiences using flow and multiomic systems into product requirements and testing for the next generation systems or improvements to current systems. Primary duties include:

 

·       Lead the definition, design, and execution of validation activities throughout product development. This includes authoring test plans, protocols, reviews, and reports.

·       Represent the department on collaborative projects by elevating customers need and product quality

·       Exercise independent judgment and apply solution thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting

·       Conduct representative sample prep, flow cytometry, and multiomic experiments to test products

·       Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customer workflows, scientific advancements in flow cytometry, and the competitive landscape

·       Interface between customers and developers/testers by translating customer needs into product requirements and testing workflows

·       Mentor and support more junior members in understanding user workflows and validation

·       Escalate top issues by providing clear, well-structured, high-level updates

Minimum Qualifications:

·       B.S. in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related discipline

·       5 years’ experience in flow cytometry in academic research, pharma industry, contract research organizations, or other relevant industry

·       Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting flow cytometers

·       Experience with sample prep and experiment design for multi-parameter flow cytometry applications

·       Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with others in a multi-disciplinary team 

·       Should be self-directed with effective time management skills

·       Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills

·       Willingness to travel up to 10% (global) to client sites (pending COVID regulations)

 

Desired Qualifications: 

·       MS or PhD degree in Immunology, Cell Biology or in a related discipline with equivalent combination of education and experience

·       Strong knowledge of flow cytometry and multiomic applications

·       Experience as a flow cytometry core lab operator is highly desired

·       Experience with product development or medical device regulatory standards
