While some may be a little cumbersome as people attach the original message to
their responses, I prefer to get all the responses separately. This way I
can chose which ones to read, possibly file for reference, (our E-mail allows
us to do a topic by topic filing, etc.) or delete. I do agree that some
messages are such that a specific response to the originator is most
appropriate, others certainly are of a more open nature and lead to a general
increase in knowledge for many of us who have somewhat limited experience and
exposure to lots of techniques. Certainly from an educational standpoint, I
find them interesting. It is unfortunate that in some instances messages such
as "Name My Babies" get so much response on the board, when really serious
inquiries seem to show so little byplay. ( On the naming bit, I sent my
contribution directly!)
To sum up-- I am in favor of leaving the board open with a lot of traffic and
an appeal to the users to use some discretion about which messages should be
responded to in the "open" or have a closed response. Certainly we all need
to be aware that a private response or message is just that--private, and
should not be forwarded in any manner UNLESS ONE CHECKS WITH THE AUTHOR FIRST!
