DNA Content in Yeast

Marcia Woda

Cytometry in Microbiology has not been exploited or explored extensively due in part to the insensitivity of older instrumentation and the unfamiliarity of Microbiologists with the discipline of analytical cytology. Here, the simple technique of DNA content measurement by flow allows for the rapid screening of yeast strains with mutations that cause cell-cycle arrest . Wild type cells are denoted in capital letters, mutant strains by lower case. Note the shift in DNA content to haploid DNA in mutant strains.
