Job Summary: Performs waived to highly complex medical laboratory tests in different areas of the lab. May have oversight as a key operator of a work area and participates in the development of technical procedures, forms, misc. documents, method validation, and implementation. Trains students and new employees, and participates in the direct observation of staff for the annual competency program. Additionally, may function as Charge Tech in absence of Lead/Supervisor/Manager.

 

Job Details:

1st shift at Central Core Lab performing Special Hematology and Flow Cytometry

Flow Cytometry experience required

Every 3rd weekend rotation and two holidays/year 1st shift

 

Eligible for sign-on bonus: half paid after 90 days and half paid after 1 year


Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities:

o   Performs waived to highly complex laboratory procedures.

o   Performs analytical testing according to policies, procedures and federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.

o   Evaluates results for accuracy and resolves complex test problems.

o   Recognizes, communicates, and documents results that require action.

o   Performs and documents routine & advanced instrument maintenance and quality control; takes appropriate remedial action.

o   Ensures appropriate record keeping and retention.

o   Accurate and timely collection and processing of specimens.

o   Instructs customers on collection procedures and protocols.

o   Verifies correct patient identification.

o   Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).

o   Collects samples, and labels specimens.

o   Evaluates specimen acceptability.

 

Customer service:

o   Greets patients, performs check-in process, and responds to patient's questions and needs.

o   Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.

o   Ensures adherence to regulatory and billing requirements.

o   Performs scheduling, ordering and releasing of patient orders in the electronic medical record.

 

Administrative duties:

o   Stocks, rotates and requests supplies on a regular basis.

o   Participates in departmental or system wide meetings, projects, or committees as required.

o   Performs various clerical duties.

o   May assist with department scheduling.

o   Participates in the development of technical procedures, forms, miscellaneous documents, method validation, and implementation of new technologies.

o   Maintains safety, education, and competency requirements.

o   Participates in the training of employees and students.

o   Assists in Direct Observations of staff for annual competency program.

o   Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

·       Bachelor's degree in medical technology or medical laboratory science from an accredited institution required and

·       CLIA defined Qualifications: § 493.1423 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications

·       CLIA defined Qualifications: § 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications

·       CLIA defined Qualifications: § 493.1491 Technologist qualifications on or before February 28, 1992

·       Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required by a recognized agency such as ASCP, AMT or NCA within 180 Days
