Senior Research Associate, Flow Cytometry

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Flow Cytometry Senior Research Associate will be responsible for the daily operation of the Flow Cytometry Core to support scientists on various adoptive cell therapy projects withing the company. The role will be expected to perform routine instrument maintenance, basic trainings to new users, and troubleshooting to assist other scientists to run their flow cytometry assays smoothly. The role will also be expected to the maintenance and operation of cell sorters independently. The role will work with the other Flow Cytometry Core personnel to support the continued development and optimization of flow cytometry assays for use within the company.

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Independent operation and troubleshooting of cell sorters
  • Maintain a highly functioning flow cytometry lab (e.g., daily instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, training to new users)
  • Develop and optimize flow cytometry assays (e.g., antibody titration, intracellular staining)
  • Draft standard operating procedures and quality standards in flow cytometry
  • Maintain inventory of flow cytometry reagents and supplies
  • Document experimental results and protocols

PREFERRED EDUCATION: 

  • BSc in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, oncology or related field or a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience within the area of focus 
  • MSc in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, oncology or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the area of focus

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and hands-on experience of flow cytometry instruments and method development
  • Hands-on experience in operating BD cell sorters and/or experience with Cytek and Bio-Rad cell cytometery
  • Familiarity with FlowJo and/or FCS Express
  • Experience with basic cell biology protocols (i.e., microscopy, immunofluorescent staining, mammalian cell culture). 
  • Experience recording data in electronic notebook 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively among different project teams
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet deadlines and balance competing priorities
  • Learn new protocols quickly and execute them successfully
  • Basic skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis software packages FlowJo, FCS Express, and Prism
