The real trick about "flower" is that it is used as a slightly affectionate
term of address in the north of England (sort of like "pet" or "love" or
"sweetie"). So when I first started using the expression (in Newcastle upon
Tyne) for flow cytometrists, the pun had an extra level of meaning....
